City officials look to improve transportation

TRAFFICWhite City, Ore.– Rogue Valley leaders and state officials are looking for ways to improve transportation in the area.  The Governor’s Transportation Vision Panel was in White City Tuesday morning meeting with city and county leaders and ODOT officials.

A wide variety of topics were covered, from alleviating traffic congestion and making the I-5 viaduct resilient in case of an earthquake, to increasing safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Brad Hicks, CEO of the Medford/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce is a member of the panel, and says the viaduct is the main focus in the Rogue Valley.

“In our region we have to really be focused on the impacts of this potential Cascadia event,” says Hicks.  “There is starting to be some consensus around the major issues.  Those will I hope turn into recommendations from our group to the Governor.”

The panel is traveling the state getting ideas they’ll be sharing with Governor Brown for future consideration.
