Cliff-side rescue in Brookings

Brookings RescueBrookings, Ore. — A Brookings woman and her dog are safe after getting stuck on the side of a cliff.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office says their Search and Rescue rope team were called into action around 12:30 Monday afternoon after a report of a woman and her dog stuck on a ledge.

Brookings Police and the Brookings Fire Department met at the location and found 35-year-old April Sachanowski and her large Rottweiler about 150 feet below the top of the cliff, and 60 feet above the rocks below.

The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter from the North bend Air Station for a possible assist. However, Search and Rescue crews were able to set up a rope system and rescue Sachanowski and her dog.

Sachanowski had been reported missing the night before, and said she and her dog were trapped by the tide. She refused any medical treatment.
