Community meets to discuss dog thefts

Grants Pass, Ore. — Residents of Josephine county are upset that their pets are going missing and say police aren’t making much of an effort.

“‘Evidence’ would indicate that you did a concerted, diligent effort to investigate,” one community member said of a press release by Grants Pass Department of Public Safety.

Residents met at Random Food in Grants Pass to talk about their missing companions and how they can put a stop to it.

While they don’t know for sure why pets are being taken, they suspect it is for illegal dog fighting.

One woman says, just within the last week she saw a dog who had just been rescued from being stolen.

“It’s just shaking, shaking and scared. I said you know, ‘what’s going on?'” remembered Michelle Fisher. “She said, ‘well I just intercepted this dog from being stolen.'”

Grants Pass police say there is no evidence that points to dogs being stolen for fighting, but they do want to help and get to the bottom of the situation.

Another meeting is being planned, you can stay up to date on the group’s Facebook page at facebook.com/groups/215422692240516/
