Construction on Oregon 62 Expressway officially begins

Medford, Ore. — It’s taken nearly two decades, but on Thursday work finally began on the Oregon 62 Expressway.

It will give White City and Eagle Point residents a more direct route home, and lessen traffic congestion on Highway 62.

The expressway is essentially a bypass. It will be a straight shot from just before Delta Waters to Corey Road.

Director of the Oregon Department of Transportation Matthew Garrett said, “I think overall it will cut down about 7 minutes per trip. So 14 minutes a day back and forth.”

“This will be a huge improvement upon getting in and out of my company and getting to work every day,” said White City resident Greg Unger.

Garrett said, “We have $400 million of investment that will go in. The phase we’re talking about now is a little over 120 million.”

Medco Haul Road will be closed to the public during construction.

The improvements are expected to be finished by 2019.
