Crews respond to structure fire south of Ashland

ASHLAND, Ore. – Crews were on scene mopping up a structure fire south of Ashland Tuesday.

The fire was first reported by people in a nearby home at about 3:22 p.m. on January 1 in the 100 block of Mowetza Drive.

Fire officials said the secondary residence on the property caught on fire. No one was inside the burning building, but there was one person inside the main residence. That resident called 911 and was evacuated.

“Our first crews from station two at Emigrant Lake showed up on scene,” said Steve Maziarski of Jackson County Fire District 5. “They were able to get a quick knock down from behind the house and basically did a structure protection, saving the backside of the house and the whole house is now in tact.”

Crews from Medford Fire-Rescue, Fire District 5 and the Ashland Fire Department all responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.
