New details of officer-involved shooting in Siskiyou County released

0519 Siskiyou County SheriffSiskiyou County, Calif. – According to police, a man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday was reportedly acting erratic and posed a threat to deputies and nearby citizens.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. on County Road A-12 in Siskiyou County, California.

According to the SCSO, deputies and a California Highway Patrol officer responded to reports of an injured man who was acting erratically along the road. They believed the injuries may have been self-inflicted.

The deputies and officer reportedly tried to calm the man, but he became confrontational and the situation quickly escalated.

Deputies said the man posed a threat to them, the CHP officer, and nearby citizens. According to SCSO, an officer-involved shooting occurred as a result of the perceived threat.

Following the shooting, deputies said they tried to save the man, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other individuals were injured in the incident.

The Siskiyou County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigations has taken over the criminal investigation. The SCSO Major Crimes Unit has taken over the administrative investigation.

SCSO will not say if the man had a weapon until the investigation has concluded.

The deputies involved are on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
