Dog rescued from overturned car in New Mexico

NC_dogrescue0629_1500x845Bernalilo County, N.M. (KOB) — Rescuers waded into the mud to save a dog trapped under an overturned car in New Mexico.

Two cars lost control and drove off the interstate and into a 12-foot creek.

“If you saw the accident, you would wonder how in the world they survived out of that,” witness Mark Chavez said.

One woman made it out safe but her dog was still trapped under her car.

“It was either get the dog out right away or he’s probably going to drown,” Deputy Isaiah Bryce of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department said.

So three deputies, a sergeant, and a bystander hopped into the creek.

They shook the car, trying to get the dog out from underneath.

The tight space and the rain made it even harder for them to move the car just enough to rescue the dog.

15 minutes later, they managed to tilt the car just enough for the dog to shimmy out.
