Disney CEO steps down

BURBANK, Calif. (NBC) – Disney CEO Bob Iger is stepping down from his role in the company.

Iger announced he is stepping down as of today to be an executive chairman with Disney and will remain in that position until the end of 2021. Bob Chapek will step in his place as CEO.

Iger played an instrumental role in the launching of Disney’s streaming service Disney Plus.

He also ushered in the acquisition of Fox’s entertainment business and the launch of the Disney theme park in Shanghai.
