Explosion reportedly causes fire that destroys a Grants Pass home

GP House FireGrants Pass, Ore. – Crews from Rural/Metro Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to the 1600 block of Granite Hill Road to a reported house fire. An occupant of the home said they heard an explosion and saw the lower portion of the house and deck on fire.

When crews arrived 10 minutes later, the home was almost fully engulfed in flames. Granite Hill Road was shut down between Grouse Creek Road and Donaldson Road for more than 3 hours while crews mopped up hot spots.

The family was able to escape without injuries. The cause is still under investigation.
