Family dog wakes resident before fire spreads

mj-talent-house-fireTalent, Ore. — A Talent family has their four-legged friend to thank after an early morning fire takes out their garage and part of their home.

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded just after 1:00 Friday morning to a structure fire on the 100 block of Autumn Ridge Court.

When they arrived the residents had evacuated along with their dog who woke them up before the fire spread.

“The homeowners were awoken by their dog, they smelled smoke, subsequently the smoke detectors went off in the house,” said Fire Chief Darin Welburn.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage and kitchen. They say the fire likely started from day old charcoal briquettes left smoldering next to a vent.
