Grants Pass, Ore. — A former Kairos employee accused of having sex with an underage teen at a youth treatment program in Grants Pass was back in court today. But the real action happened outside the courthouse.

Chella Morton said she knows the grief of a helpless mother too well. Since April her daughter Jessica Morton has been in and out of the Josephine County Courthouse. She’s facing several counts of sexual misconduct and sex abuse.

“This is heartbreaking,” she said.

Chella said the whole situation is out of their control, but family and friends rally outside the courthouse after every court appearance to provide hugs and support.

Jessica is accused of having sex with a then 17-year-old boy in the youth treatment program at Kairos, while she was employed there as a skills coach supervisor. Chella said the boy made the story up.

“If I thought for one minute or one second that she did anything I couldn’t support her,” Chella she said.

Jessica was fired after the allegations surfaced. Her trial is likely to begin next year. Until then Chella said friends and family will keep rallying in support of her daughter.
