Fatal accident along I-5 Exit 19

Update (04/12 3:50 p.m.) — According to Oregon State Police, the lone occupant of the vehicle that crashed over a guardrail along I-5 was partially ejected from the vehicle and killed. Police say it appears the vehicle was traveling in the fast lane of I-5 southbound when it went onto the left shoulder, then swerved across the right lane, struck a guard rail, and went down an embankment.

The investigation is ongoing.

Ashland, Ore. — A fatality is confirmed by the Oregon Department of Transportation after a vehicle crashed over the guardrail along I-5.

According to the ODOT, the crash occurred around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon on the southbound I-5 Exit 19 on-ramp. The southbound slow lanes were blocked by emergency medical, fire, and police and crew are expected to be on scene for some time due to crash reconstruction. Southbound traffic was advised to take alternate routes.

The fatal accident occurred at roughly the same time as a separate, three-vehicle crash on the Medford viaduct that blocked the northbound fast lane of I-5.
