Curry County, Ore. – A woman has died as a result of injuries she sustained after a crash that occurred just south of Brookings.
Oregon State Police said the crash happened around 4:45 Friday evening on Highway 101, three miles south of Brookings. An investigation indicated that a pickup truck that had been traveling south on Highway 101 when it came to a stop in the left lane while waiting to make a turn.
Police said while waiting to turn, the pickup truck was rear-ended by a car driven by 47-year-old Brookings resident Susan Childress.
According to OSP, Childress and her passenger were transported to the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Childress was eventually airlifted to a hospital in Redding, California and passed away on Sunday.
Police say that witnesses reported Childress was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to avoid the pickup truck at the last second.
