Fatal crash near Gold Hill

1116-crashJackson County, Ore. — Deputies said an 11-year-old girl died in a single-vehicle crash on Galls Creek Road, south of Gold Hill.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a white Chevy Tahoe left the road and went down an embankment, coming to rest upside-down in a shallow creek. Witnesses to the crash called 911 and tried to aid those in the Tahoe.

JSCO said an 11-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl’s mother was taken to a local hospital. Deputies did not comment on her current condition.

The girl was a student at Patrick Elementary School in Gold Hill. JCSO said grief counselors will be available to assist students and faculty at the school.

Authorities said though the crash is under investigation, speed and road conditions may have been a factor.

The names of those involved will be released after next of kin has been notified.
