Veterinarians said the young deer was picked up by humans in Kirby after they found it alone.

After keeping it in their home and feeding it baby formula, the fawn became sick. They took it to Wildlife Images, where staff noticed it had an ulcer in one of its eye due to poor nutrition and inappropriate “rescuing”.0615 Fawn eye surgery 01

A successful surgery was performed by Bliss Animal Eye Care on Wednesday, and the fawn is recovering. It should still be able to be eventually released to the wild.

Veterinarians remind the public it is essential that there is no human interaction with fawns, and does will leave their fawns alone for up to 24 hours while foraging for food. They also said baby formula should never be fed to wildlife.
