Sandoval pleads not guilty to attempted murder charges

Update (1/26 10:00 AM): A teen charged with attempted murder makes another court appearance Monday. 17-year-old Tyler Sandoval is facing charges of attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon and reckless endangering.

Medford Police say he is one of five people involved in a shooting on Narregan Street on September 16th. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Prosecutors and the defense asked for more time to prepare. The judge scheduled another pre-trial hearing for February 8th.

Medford, Ore. — The fifth suspect wanted for attempted murder after a shooting on Narregan Street in West Medford is now in custody. According to Medford Police 17-year-old Tyler Sandoval was arrested Monday by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Monday after nearly two months on the run.

“We’re all safer now that he’s in custody,” Lieutenant Mike Budreau said.

Sandoval was one of five involved in a shooting on the 1000 block of Narregan Street on September 16th. According to a news release by MPD the group of males pulled up to an apartment complex and got out of their car to confront a group of people standing in the parking lot. Budreau said things got heated and Sandoval started shooting.

“He actually fired several rounds in an apartment complex that was very crowded and came within feet of striking innocent victims even children,” he said.

After nearly two months on the run Sandoval was arrested in Bellflower, California. He was caught after another suspect in the case, Santiago Flores-Loveland, was arrested by LA County Sheriff’s deputies last month for possession of a firearm. Budreau said it could be the same gun used on Narregan Street.

Budreau said Sandoval was with Flores-Loveland during the arrest, but got away after giving the deputies a false name. He was found Monday at an apartment complex and was arrested without incident.

The extradition process to get Sandoval back to Oregon is now underway. Budreau said he could be back here as soon as next week. He’s facing multiple charges including attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless endangering.
