Crater Lake Nat’l Park, Ore. — Firefighters are making progress at a fire burning in Crater Lake National Park.

The Bybee Creek Fire, which started July 28th, has slowed its spread, but is still only 12% contained.

On Wednesday, a fuel break, or barrier, was completed around the fire to stop it from spreading further.

While some roads and trails are closed in the park, it remains open.

A “Level 1” evacuation notice has been issued for the Rim Village and Park Headquarters to inform residents and visitors to be ready to evacuate in the event the fire approaches.

The cause of the 720-acre fire is still unknown.
