Fire danger level high, but not yet extreme

Jackson County, Ore. — Despite low humidity and high temperatures, the Oregon Department of Forestry still hasn’t moved the fire danger level to extreme.

Although the area is still in the yellow, or high range, there are precautions to be taken in the heat to prevent a fire from happening.

The first, according to ODF, is the easiest.

“It’s triple digits, everyone wants to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and nature and enjoy some of the local rivers and such, but don’t start a campfire just because it’s a nice spot. Make sure you’re using those designated signs because it really helps,” Melissa Cano said, ODF.

Thursday afternoon, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest announced they’re moving to high fire danger on all districts.
