Fire season begins in Klamath, Lake counties

Klamath Falls, Ore. – Fire season is now officially underway in Klamath and Lake Counties.

The declaration was triggered by warmer weather and drying fuels.

Jake Barnett with the Oregon Department of Forestry said, “What we’ve been experiencing lately has been escaped burn piles that were lit from this last spring, even some from last fall.”

All outdoor debris burns are now prohibited in Klamath and Lake Counties.

Additional restrictions are also now in effect for the Klamath River Canyon area.
