Firefighters continue to battle Bybee Creek Fire

0804 Bybee Creek FireCrater Lake Nat’l Park, Ore. — Hot and dry weather aren’t doing firefighters any favors as they continue to fight a fire near Crater Lake.

Fire crews said strong winds blew the nearly 800 acre Bybee Creek Fire towards a trail on the eastern flank of Crater Lake, but firefighters were able to fight the flames from the Rim Road.

On Thursday, crews worked to reinforce fire lines and use helicopters for water drops.

Smoke will continue to be in the national park with parts of the road and Pacific Crest Trail closed to the public.

As of Thursday afternoon, the fire was 12% contained.
