Grants Pass, Ore. — A flaming pickup truck drove into a Grants Pass storefront on Monday evening, and the driver is now behind bars after he allegedly fled the scene.

According to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, the pickup crashed into Cartwright’s Deli on Beacon Drive at around 5:00. Firefighters were quickly able to extinguish the flames and conduct an investigation.

Officers say witnesses to the incident saw the driver flee the truck and get picked up by another vehicle. The information led officers to Richard J. Roy. He was located on East Park Street and subsequently arrested. He is being charged with making an unfounded report of a stolen vehicle, and driving while suspended.

Police say Roy dropped a match in the pickup after smoking a cigarette. The match then started a fire and caused the crash.

Nobody was injured in the incident, and the investigation is ongoing
