Florida mosque targeted

nc_floridamosque0912_1500x845Fort Pierce, Fla. (NBC News) — Investigators say that a huge fire at a mosque in Fort Pierce, Florida Sunday was a deliberately set.

Security video shows a person running from the mosque moments after the blaze breaks out.

“Shortly after the individual approached the building, an immediate very large flash was observed in the video footage. The male was then seen leaving the mosque in a hurry,” says Major David Thompson of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

The mosque was once attended by Omar Mateen, the man who opened fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando in June, killing 49 people and leaving dozens of others injured before being killed in a shootout with police. The anniversary of the September 11th attacks is also being considered as a possible motive.
