Reports: 17 dead after Florida high school shooting

PARKLAND, Fla. – At least 17 people were killed after a gunman opened fire inside a Florida high school Wednesday.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, when they responded to the school just after 3:00 p.m. EST, the shooter appeared to be still at-large at that time.

Just after 4:00 p.m. EST, police were seen taking a suspect into custody.

NBC Miami reports at least 17 people are dead and at least 20 people were injured as of Wednesday afternoon. Twelve of the victims were found deceased inside the school.

According to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, the 19-year-old suspect was a former student at the school. Israel called the shooting a “horrific, homicidal and detestable act.”
