Grant approved for 2 new Jackson Co. deputies

jackson county soMedford, Ore. — The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has approved a grant that will put two more sheriff’s deputies on patrol.

The Department of Justice’s Community Policing Services (COPS) grant will provide funding for two entry level sheriff’s deputies.

The deputies will operate like normal officers but their daily routines will center around outreach.

Jackson County Sheriff Captain Nathan Sickler told NBC5 News, “Our focus initially is going to be on issues within the community, to build partnerships in the community and in schools and with youth.”

The grant provides $250,000 towards hiring the deputies with a cash match from the county.
