Grants Pass driver injured by chunk of ice

Chemult, Ore. – A Grants Pass motorist was injured after the vehicle he was driving was hit by a large piece of ice that blew off a semi-truck.

According to Oregon State Police, the man was driving on Highway 97 near Chemult when a large chunk of ice fell off a semi-truck that was traveling in the opposite direction.

The ice punched a large hole in the driver’s side windshield and hit the man in the head. The chunk of ice then landed in an empty child safety seat.

Police said the man was able to drive the pickup to a gas station in Chemult where he met up with emergency responders. The man had cuts to his head and face including a severe cut to his right hand.

Officials say it’s always a good idea to clear any ice or snow off the roof of your vehicle before you hit the road.
