Grass fire sparks near Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Ore. – Oregon Department of Forestry and Applegate Valley Fire crews responded to a grass fire in the 2000 block of Sterling Creek Road south of Jacksonville around 2:15 Tuesday evening.

Firefighters said an outbuilding was on fire when crews arrived. A nearby home was threatened but was not damaged.

By 4:00 p.m., the flames were extinguished. The fire burned an estimated 4.5 acres and was 80% lines with a dozer.

Pacific Power said the fire was likely sparked by a blown transformer.
