Grenades prompt “lock-in” at a Grants Pass High School

0412 grenadeGrants Pass, Ore. — A Grants Pass high school was put on lock-in Tuesday morning because of a possible live grenade.

Three Rivers School District says a North Valley student brought two supposedly decommissioned World War II hand grenades to a history class for show and tell with permission from his teacher.

School officials say one of the grenades did not show signs of being decommissioned which prompted administrators to call in OSP and put the school on “lock-in” for about an hour.

Oregon State Police were called out safety protocols were put in place. There were no students put in danger, and no students or staff members were ever threatened.

Experts in the field say the grenade that prompted the lock-in was found to be void of explosive contents. The grenade was removed from campus and the lock-in was lifted.

Neither student nor teacher will receive any disciplinary actions.
