Hendrix Fire 90% contained

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. – A wildfire nine miles southwest of Ashland is 90% contained.

Crews fighting the Hendrix Fire in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest have officially transitioned to patrol status as they approach full containment of the 1,082-acre fire. Only one engine remains on the scene. Mop up and repair work was completed on August 19.

Daily updates about the fire will no longer be made, as fire behavior is reportedly “unlikely” and the fire isn’t expected to move from its current location.

The U.S. Forest Service is working to reduce the area closed due to the fire. Level 1 (be ready) evacuation notices remain in effect, but they may be lifted soon.

The USFS listed the following closures and evacuation notices on the morning of August 20:

CURRENT EVACUATION ORDERS: The evacuation level remains at Level 1 for the Jackson County Hendrix Fire evacuation area. Level 1 means “BE READY” for potential evacuation. Residents should be vigilant and monitor emergency services websites and local media outlets for information. For the latest information, go to http://jacksoncountyor.org/sheriff/. Residents in the area are encouraged to sign up for Citizen Alert at http://www.jacksoncounty.org/alert. CURRENT CLOSURES: The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Hendrix Fire Area Closure for the southern portion of the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District remains in effect. Detailed information and a map of the area closure are available at https://www.fs.usda.gov/rogue-siskiyou.
