High numbers against support for local history measure 15-164

Jackson County, Ore. — For those wanting to support local history, the results in Jackson County are coming as a blow.

The current numbers for county measure 15-164 are showing 33% in favor, and 66% against.

The proposed district was hoping to help fund local research libraries, museums, and educational activities.

Although it doesn’t look like the measure will pass, Chairman Scott Henselman of Our Heritage PAC says it’s been a valiant effort.

“A lot of dedicated people worked tireless hours to go ahead and make it happen, and we just weren’t able to get our message out. History is important, and it didn’t get out to the public enough to where they voted in favor of it,” Henselman said.

It would have put five cents per one-thousand dollar tax on local property owners, except in Shady Cove.

Henselman says he thinks the failure of the measure is a hard loss for future generations.
