Honoring Doctor Van Dyke

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A vacant lot in downtown Klamath Falls will soon become a memorial to a local physician.

Tom Hottman of Sky Lakes Medical Center explained that an empty lot will soon be developed into a public green space.  “We’re making public, an investment in a downtown park in the memory of Dr. Stephanie Van Dyke.”

Dr. Van Dyke died in January from injuries suffered in a tragic sledding accident.

Friends and co-workers hope to honor her by creating a park in her memory.

Plans call for the park to be developed on a property between 11th and 12th streets in downtown Klamath Falls, right across the street from Sky Lakes Wellness Center.

The property has been vacant since a fire destroyed a warehouse on the site in August of 2011.

Hottman says the project is still in the design phase. “We hope to have plans ready this summer, and then some construction potentially later in the year.  And then open, presumably, next summer – the summer of 2018.”

Stephanie Van Dyke placed strong emphasis on community health, and it’s hoped the park with be a fitting tribute.

“It’s developing an area downtown that is in desperate need of something pretty,” said Hottman. “And it helps honor our friend in a way that she would appreciate.”

A celebration of life for Stephanie Van Dyke will be held the afternoon of Saturday, February 25th at 1:pm in the Running ‘Y’ conference center.
