House fire in Central Point likely sparked by candle

1110-table-rock-road-fireCentral Point, Ore. – Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 4200 block of Table Rock Road near Biddle Road on Thursday morning.

According to Medford Fire-Rescue, the occupant of the home said he was awoken by the sound of his dog barking and found his bedroom on fire. He tried to put out the flames using a fire extinguisher, but the fire was too big. He evacuated the home and called 911.

Firefighters said there was no power to the home, and the resident was using candles for light.  While the fire is still under investigation, ignition from a candle in the bedroom was identified as a possible cause.

MFR said while there were fire alarms in the home, they didn’t alert the resident, nor does he remember hearing them. Firefighters wrote in a press release, “This is a good reminder of the importance of installing and maintaining working smoke alarms in your home.”

The building was heavily damaged by smoke. There were no reported injuries.
