House saved from fire thanks to quick response

Selma, Ore. – The Illinois Valley Fire District says that an early morning house fire on the 100 block of Bonanza Drive in Selma resulted in no injuries, with minimal damage to the structure.

Fire and ambulance crews quickly responded to a two-story home with smoke coming from the under the roof line. Illinois Valley Fire says units worked for over an hour to extinguish the fire, and perform salvage operations to prevent further damage.

Jason Bayless of the Illinois Valley Fire District said that people are usually sound asleep at the time the fire took place, and the occupants in this situation did well by exiting the home so quickly.

The Illinois Valley Fire District says the fire appears to have been caused by radiant heat from the chimney. They say that even though there was some fire and water damage, the occupants will be able to return to their home.
