I-5 re-opened near the Oregon-California border

Update (01/04/17 2:40 p.m.) — All lanes of Interstate 5 near the Oregon-California border have been re-opened after an extended closure due to extreme weather.

ODOT said ‘metering’ has been lifted for southbound traffic, but there will still be extended delays.

Ashland, Ore — For more than 12 hours south bound Interstate 5 was a parking lot between Ashland and the California-Oregon border.

Blizzard conditions near the Siskiyou Summit prompted ODOT and CalTrans to shut down the highway.

Hundreds of cars and trucks were lined up along I-5–bumper to bumper

I-5 re-opened in both directions on Wednesday around 10:30 a.m.

Cars and semi-trucks are being checked for chains and being let through at a rate of one-per-minute.
