Investigators search for arsonist responsible for Withers Fire

Paisley Fire 1Paisley, Ore.– Investigators say a wildfire that forced the evacuation of campgrounds along the Chewaucan River, and had the town of Paisley on edge, was arson.

The Withers Fire has burned almost 3,500 acres in southern Oregon. As of Monday morning, it was 65 percent contained.

The fire, which broke out Wednesday around 2:15 p.m. near the town of Paisley, quickly grew and prompted Level 1 evacuation notices. Those evacuation notices were lifted Friday evening. A Level 3 evacuation order remains in effect for campgrounds along the Chewaucan River and any residences along the River Road.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the arsonist to contact them at 541-947-2504.
