Jackson County Community Justice Director arrested for possession of meth

MEDFORD, Ore. — A well known Jackson county employee is facing criminal charges and Jackson County District Attorney Beth Heckert says Shane Hagey’s arrest came as a shock.

“It’s disheartening the type of charges that he is being charged with,” commented Heckert.

Hagey was arrested by Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement, or ‘MADGE’ officers, at the Purple Parrot in the Medford Center Wednesday night. They say he had meth and resisted arrest.

“If we are proceeding with the felony charge, which possession of a controlled substance is a felony charge, then it would be scheduled for grand jury,” explained Heckert

Hagey’s been the Director of Jackson County Community Justice for several years.

“I don’t have any indication that it was happening at his work place,” said District Attorney Heckert

He reports directly to Jackson County Administrator Danny Jordan who declined comment.

A pair of local attorneys tell me Hagey is in charge of at least 50 employees. Most of them probation and parole officers, some also work at the Juvenile Services Center.

I tried talking to Hagey at his home in Medford, but all I could hear was a door locking.

Heckert says Shane Hagey will have his day in court like everyone else in Jackson County’s justice system — a place he knows all too well, but for very different reasons.
