Josephine County Sheriff discusses impact of lower budget

0428 Josephine County Sheriff's OfficeJosephine County, Ore. — The Josephine County Sheriff warned the County Budget Committee about the impact of a lower budget if funding issues aren’t solved.

The Daily Courier reports Sheriff Dave Daniel shared statistics from the last fiscal year, and this year, to the budget committee on Tuesday.

Among the information, Daniel says deputies are on the road 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. There were 208 “forced releases” from the jail, and 56 employees work at the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, most of those in the jail.

Daniel says cuts may mean road patrols, and the number of inmates in the jail, would decline considerably.
