PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU/CNN) – What to do with the aging Interstate 5 Bridge over the Columbia River? It’s a key issue facing Oregon and Washington, as this bridge is vital to the economies in both states. Among the concerns facing the current crossing, originally opened in 1917, is the safety of a non-earthquake resilient structure, a lack of high-capacity transit, and the congestion issues for drivers — especially for trucks.
