Lawyers say Klamath Co. Jail inmate’s lawsuit should be dismissed

Klamath Falls, Ore. — Lawyers for Klamath County say a jail inmate’s federal lawsuit, which includes claims of religious discrimination, should be dismissed.

Steven Michael Wise is currently serving a 6 year prison sentence for arson. Wise filed suit against the Klamath County Sheriff and Jail Commander in September, claiming they had failed to respect his Jewish faith.

Court documents claim Wise has admitted that he has never spoken with a rabbi, or visited a synagogue.

Defense attorneys also say that Wise ordered non-kosher items at the same time he requested a kosher diet at the jail.

Wise has until April 4th to respond to the county’s motion.
