Lead pipe found in Medford neighborhood

0623 lead pipe MedfordMedford, Ore. — The Medford Water Commission removed the first lead pigtail pipe discovered at Oakdale Drive in Medford Friday morning. The pipe was installed in 1909.

Crews have located more than a dozen homes in Medford that are fed by galvanized pipes,  a telltale sign that lead pigtail pipes may be underground. The Medford Water Commission has canvassed more than 300 meter boxes this week and have found galvanized pipe feeding 15 homes.0623 lead pipe Medford 01

They’ve been handing out blue flyers notifying residents of their active search and placing door hangers on homes where galvanized pipe has been located.

Public Information Coordinator Sara Bristol says digging and will continue their investigation of more meter boxes as their schedules allow.
