Local director wins awards at Cannes Film Festival

0801 Matt RossCannes, France — A local director wins a big prize at a big film festival.

Ashlander Matt Ross was awarded “Best Director” in the “Un Certain Regard” category at the Cannes Film Festival in France for his film “Captain Fantastic.”

The movie focuses on a father, played by Viggo Mortenson, who raises his six children through tough times.

The film is set in the pacific northwest.

This is the latest director’s award for Ross for the movie. So far, he’s won four others.

The movie is currently screening at Ashland’s Varsity Theatre.
