Sydney Norvell and Laci Mae James are returning from state with a load of confidence and some medals. Norvell says “I won 1st on vault and first on beam and then 3rd overall which was pretty good because I didn’t expect that” James says “1st on vault was a great accomplishment, because i was not expecting to do that well, and 3rd all around was awesome as well.” Watching them fly gracefully across the gym…or their power and balance on the beam, it’s easy to see why they are among the best around, but the girls say, confidence had been hard to come by. Laci says she was actually in a brain lock, on the vault. ” I would just start crying and break down, because I was so scared, but you just have to start all over like it the first time ever”

Sydney meanwhile had never really tasted true success at meet ever, before this last round at state. She said ” I thought I was going to fall on bars…but i didn’t…i just had a block there, where I could get past it.” she said. Both girls blocked out the fear and harnessed the adrenaline at state, to earn a spot on the podium. “I don’t usually get excited in gym…but when it comes to competition i get excited and i actually become more flexible.” Sydney’s run ended at state, but at Laci’s level she will get a shot April 15th to take on the region’s best.
