Airport Lowers Landing Fee

It’s probably one of the only fees associated with flying that doesn’t come out of your wallet.

It’s called a landing fee, the cost that airlines have to pay in order to land at certain airports.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners dropped the landing fee at the airport by nearly a third.

“By reducing landing fee’s it makes us more competitive in the market to draw new air carrier into our area or to increase the type of service that current air carriers could bring in.” says Kim Stearns, PIO for the Rogue Valley International Airport.

So how it does it affect you Well a lower fee to land means airlines might be more inclined to fly to Medford.

We could see more flights, new locations, and possibly even new airlines.

One frequent flyer says “I think it would be great to have a wider variety of airlines just for the price because they might be more competitive with prices, maybe we could fly a little cheaper.”

The airport says they don’t think the cuts will hurt them, saying they will make up the revenue through other sources. “This is an area that we felt that we could lower those costs, still be competitive, but still continue to operate healthily.”

It’s unclear if the savings to airlines will get passed on to you when you buy a ticket but the airport is hopeful you’ll at least have more options when you travel.
