Ammon Bundy speaks out from jail

Portland, Ore. — The leader of the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is speaking out.

Ammon Bundy spoke from inside an Oregon jail where he is being held on federal conspiracy charges.

Bundy says his group never had violent intentions. They instead were trying to educate people about the will of government. “We were about educating people and making a demonstration that would bring light to a topic about how government is prosecuting Americans for ranching, for logging, for mining, and also simple things like hiking and camping,” said Bundy.

The occupation ended last month after 41 days at the refuge.
