Initiative to reduce mental illness in jails is approved in Josephine County

640x360_51027B00-RFKTT (1)Josephine County, Ore. — An initiative to help reduce the number of people with mental illnesses in jails is approved in Josephine County on Wednesday.

The board of commissioners passed the Stepping Up Initiative at their weekly business meeting Wednesday morning.

The initiative is a nationwide mental wellness program which has been adopted in three northern counties in Oregon.

The commissioners are also encouraging neighboring counties to also continue to address mental health.
