Ashland, Ore. — The Ashland City Council voted Tuesday night to temporarily ban dispensaries in city limits in certain areas. The councilors went back and forth for hours on different motions, finally deciding on one to impose a limited temporary ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.
This comes after residents, near a proposed medical marijuana dispensary on Williamson Way came before the council multiple times including Tuesday night saying they are opposed to a dispensary in their neighborhood.
At the meeting the council discussed an all out ban and a limited ban. They voted in favor of a limited moratorium which will ban in specific areas including the Williamson Way area. Puff’s Smoke Shop, a dispensary already in operation in Ashland will not be affected.
This is just the first step, according to city council guidelines there needs to be a second discussion and vote, before the decision is final.
The next discussion and vote for the limited ban will be in two weeks at the next city council meeting.
