BREAKING: UCC Shooter identified, 10 victims dead, 7 injured

Roseburg, Ore. – CNN reports that multiple law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation identified the gunman as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer. He died following a shootout with police on Thursday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirms that 10 other victims dead are as well, during an active shooter situation on the Umpqua Community College at 10:38 AM on Thursday morning. Seven other people have been injured. Initial reports from OSP indicated fatalities were much higher.

Medford Police are sending one Detective Sergeant and two Detectives to assist at the scene. Josephine County Sheriff Daniel is en route to the scene to help. Josephine County deputies are standing by at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass as a precaution. Meanwhile, Providence Medford Medical Center confirms they are on standby for trauma victims, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is on standby.

Classes began at UCC on Monday.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown has ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff until sunset Friday. Classes are not expected to resume on the campus until at least Monday.

A vigil is being held tonight at 8 PM at Stewart Park in Roseburg.
