Celebrity Mike Rowe responds to MPD’s joking accusation

MIKE ROWE DEBACLEMedford, Ore. — A Medford bank robbery is receiving national attention after police jokingly identified a celebrity as the suspect, and the celebrity sends out a response.

Rowe is the host of hit television show “Dirty Jobs.” Medford police jokingly identified him as a suspect after reviewing surveillance photos from the scene of a robbery at Chase Bank on Stewart Avenue Monday.

Rowe got wind of the joke and agreed, saying “it does look like me.” But he said he was in Kansas Monday and can prove it.

“We believe his alibi. He seems like a believable guy and as he points out he is much taller than the guy we’re looking for,” Medford Police Lieutenant Mike Budreau said.

Rowe’s response came over Facebook, where he complimented the Medford Police Department and the city, saying he’s visited in the past. He also suggested an alternative possibility.

“What if the thief was not an idiot, but a clever person of below average height wearing a Mike Rowe mask?” Rowe said in his post.

All joking aside, Medford police are still looking for the real suspect in the bank robbery. He’s described as a white male 5’6″ to 5’8″ with a small to medium build wearing a beige hat, gray hooded sweatshirt, a blue jeans. If you have any information call Medford police.
