Coast Guard Rescue

Three men were rescued and are doing fine Monday after their fishing vessel sunk Friday afternoon, said U.S. Coast Guard officials.

11 miles off the coast of Crescent City at 2:46 p.m. Friday Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay received a garbled mayday signal from a distressed vessel named the West Wind, according to Coast Guard officials.

Using two different communication towers, the Coast Guard was able to narrow down the location of the vessel anda coast guard helicopter took flight located an inflatable life raft at 4:25 p.m. almost two hours after the mayday call.

No word yet on what caused the boat to sink.
