Columbus Ave. closed following car crash, vehicle fire

Medford, Ore. — Medford police are investigating the cause of a crash that shut down part of Columbus avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Officers say around 4:30 p.m., they were called to Columbus avenue and 8th street. They report a black sedan and white SUV collided near the corner.

When police arrived, their primary concern was for the people in both cars, which they said were catching on fire.

“The black sedan started to smolder when we were on scene, the white SUV was actually on fire,” Corporal Tom Venables said.

Medford Fire-Rescue responded, and put out the flames. At least three people were taken to the hospital with injuries. It’s not clear if any traffic citations will be issued.
