Despite Recent Tragedies, School Violence is Declining

Amid all this tragedy and recent violence, with the school shooting on Friday, it’s important to keep in mind, that according to research, schools are generally very safe.

In fact, experts say school violence in particular has decreased since the 1990s.

The U.S. Department of Education says 83-percent of public schools reported no serious violent crime.

However, there’s no question, recent events like the one that happened in Newtown, Connecticut, or the shooting at the mall in Clackamas earlier in the week are typically rare, but still traumatic events.
